Stopping a draft with insulation in a 100 year old home!

This home in the Pittsburgh Mt Washington area is just about 100 years old! The owners have had a cold draft every winter in this closet, as the closet wall is an outside wall with little to no insulation. Since there was no space to work with for bulky fiberglass insulation, the only option we has was to install foam insulation, R15. So we framed it out with 2x3 lumber and added the foam board.

Next we added the drywall, and drywall mud. We got lucky and was able to save the old trim and boards from the original closet. Its hard to find trim this old, but we made it work!

Once finished, this closet looks the same as it did when we started, just with added insulation and that will provide a lot warmer space, as well as more efficient cooling for the house!
